Counting Crows’ Adam Duritz Says He’s Collaborated on New Gang of Youths’ Record

It’s anyone’s guess when the next Gang of Youths album will be released, but it sounds like there’s a good chance we’ll be hearing Adam Duritz’s voice when it happens.
In a Forbes interview published today (Sunday, May 16), the Counting Crows’ frontman let it slip that he sings on the album. The focus of the conversation is on the new Counting Crows EP, Butter Miracle, Suite One, which is coming out later this week.
Duritz’ says he got inspiration for the new music a couple years ago while spending time in the English countryside. He had been listening to an album by his friend Sean Barna called Cissy and hanging out with Dave Le’aupepe. As Duritz describes all that in the Forbes interview, he mentions singing on the new GOY record:
I’d been listening to newer stuff that friends had made, like Cissy, my friend Dave Le’aupepe, the singer for an Australian band called Gang Of Youths, they live in London. So I was spending a lot of time with him when I was over there, that was affecting me. I just think some of them and their passion for playing music was really infecting me with it. I sang on Cissy and the Gang Of Youths record and it might have been part of that.
Pretty sure this is the first time anyone’s mentioned that Duritz has recorded with Gang of Youths. It’s no secret that he’s friends with the band — or at least Dave, in particular. The eagle-eyed among you — and those of you who follow us on Instagram and/or Twitter — may recall Duritz posting a pic of he and Dave together in England back in August 2019.
Going back a little further, Duritz raved about Gang of Youths in 2018 on a podcast that he used to co-host with music journalist James Campion.
As a big Counting Crows fan myself, I’m excited to hear what this collaboration sounds like. Hopefully the song(s) will make the cut when the new album comes out, and hopefully we’ll all get to hear it soon!
