“Angel Of 8th Ave.” places 6th in Triple J Hottest 100

Gang of Youths placed two songs in Triple J’s Hottest 100 of 2021 and two more songs in the Hottest 200, which would normally make GOY fandom pretty happy, but that’s not quite how it played out this weekend.
Why not?
Because “The Angel Of 8th Ave.,” which by most accounts was considered a contender for the No. 1 spot overall, and likely to be no lower than No. 2, ended up finishing No. 6 in the Hottest 100. It was one of four GOY songs to make the Hottest 200:
6. “The Angel Of 8th Ave.”
57. “The Man Himself”
112. “Tend The Garden”
199. “Unison”
Basically, every song Gang of Youths released in 2021 made the Hottest 200 — that’s pretty cool.
“Angel” becomes the third-highest GOY song to make Triple J’s annual popularity contest. In the 2017 countdown, “Let Me Down Easy” finished No. 2, and “The Deepest Sighs, The Frankest Shadows” came in at No. 5.
As you can imagine, there were some disappointed fans reacting to “Angel” only making it to No. 6.
The band, meanwhile, took a tone of gratitude in its acknowledgment of the Hottest 100 results.
