Gang of Youths wins twice at Australia’s 2018 National Live Music Awards

While Gang of Youths is killing it on their just-started North American Say Yes To Life tour, back in Australia the band picked up two honors at the 2018 National Live Music Awards  on Thursday night (Dec. 6) — an event that played out simultaneously at seven different venues around the country.

The band’s two awards came in these categories:

  • International Live Achievement – Band
  • Best Live Act – NSW

Courtney Barnett won the solo award for International Live Achievement, if you’re curious.

GOY picked up four awards in the 2017 NLMAs. And at the inaugural NLMAs in 2016, they won one — Best Live Act – NSW, the same award they collected on Thursday.

UPDATE: The NLMAs have published their own recap of the night’s events, and it includes a couple nuggets we should add to this article:

  • Gang of Youths is the only artist to win the same category all three years running. In GOY’s case, they’ve won “Best Live Act – NSW” each year.
  • Gang of Youths is the most-awarded artist overall in NLMA history, with seven awards.

Cool stuff.

Watch: 5 Great videos from recent Gang of Youths Sydney show

Sure, the Say Yes To Life tour has already arrived in North America, but let’s take a moment to appreciate what happened as the tour wound its way through Australia:

Facebook, Instagram and Twitter were filled with great photos, video clips and messages from fans overflowing with emotion about the show(s) they saw. Whether you were one of those fans, we thought you might want to take a little look back at the Australian leg — and we found some help on YouTube. That’s where LuckyLuke7895 uploaded five great videos from the November 27 show in Sydney that we felt are worthy of sharing here on Deepest Sighs. Enjoy!

By the way … if you’re going to a GOY show, or if you were already at one, and you have videos or photos that you’d like to share with your fellow fans here on DS, drop us a note any time.

Gang of Youths’ MTV Unplugged album to be released in U.S. before Christmas

With GOY’s Say Yes To Life tour about to resume in Nashville, the good news continues for fans in North America. In addition to this weekend’s airing of the MTV Unplugged show in the U.S. comes the news that the album will be released on December 21, 2018 — just in time to make a perfect, last-minute Christmas gift.

Even better: It’s a combo package with both the 2-LP vinyl and the DVD. Bam!

The release is showing up online already. is taking pre-orders with a $30.98 (USD) price, while has pre-orders at $27.89. (There’s also a 3-disc listing on, but it doesn’t have a price or pre-order option as I type this.)

This is cool to see: an MTV airing right before the tour starts in the hopes of drumming up some extra visibility and interest, and then an album/DVD release less than a week after the tour ends in the hopes of taking advantage of the buzz and new fans that’ll surely be made over the two-week tour.
