Gang of Youths visits, performs at Everton FC’s Finch Farm

Something was going on today at Finch Farm in Liverpool and it involved Gang of Youths, Warner Records and the Everton Football Club. (Finch Farm is Everton’s training facility.)

Still and video cameras rolled while the entire band explored the facility, with Dave, Max and Donnie dressed in the club’s home blue shirts, and Joji and Jung in their away orange.

The band’s social media posts joked that Joji was signing with Everton for £80.000001 million, passing Harry Maguire’s £80M signing with Manchester United earlier in the day. (Maguire’s deal is now said to be worth almost £100M, FWIW.)

The band’s post, as well as Instagram Stories from both GOY and Warner Records UK, also includes footage of Dave and Joji performing “Fear And Trembling” in front of lights and cameras. Ergo, we’ve added this as a new performance in our Tours section. If any other songs were played, there’s no evidence yet. I asked about the setlist in the comments of the band’s Facebook post and at least one person who was there replied by saying he was “sworn to secrecy.”

The Warner Records post on Instagram mentions that they were “filming something cool with @everton and @gangofyouths today.”

Everton also chimed in with a tweet telling its fans that GOY is their “new favourite band,” and that’s prompted a little spike in new Twitter followers for the band — even though they don’t use Twitter much.

Dan Alston, whose Twitter profile lists him as Everton’s social media guy, sheds a little more light on things and suggests that we’ll definitely see the results (in video form) of whatever this was about today.

It’s anyone’s guess what all went down today, but it looks like fun and we sure hope that version of “Fear And Trembling” sees the light of day soon … along with anything else they may have performed.
