Gang of Youths scores first Top 10 hit with “The Angel of 8th Ave.”

“The Angel of 8th Ave.” is flying in virgin territory.

Gang of Youths’ first single from the Total Serene EP lands at #9 in this week’s Billboard Adult Alternative Airplay chart, making it the band’s first Top 10 single anywhere in the world. The song has been on the chart for seven weeks and has typically been climbing 2-4 spots per week.

The band’s highest previous chart appearance (in the U.S. or anywhere) happened when “The Heart Is A Muscle” debuted at #37 on this same AAA chart back on June 22, 2018. The song spent a total of five weeks in the Top 40 that summer but never rose above its debut position.

Gang of Youths has also had some chart success in its native Australia. “Angel” is its best-ever charting song there, debuting at #48 on the ARIA singles chart in late June. That’s one spot higher than “Let Me Down Easy” reached in February 2018.

Enough of the past. Here’s some of the company that “Angel” is keeping this week in the Top 10.
