Gang of Youths issuing 7-inch vinyl for new demo, ‘A Fantastic Death’
There’s been no official announcement as I type this, but it sure looks like Gang of Youths is planning a second release for February 25th.
A new 7-inch vinyl is currently showing up on at least two online music shops: Rough Trade and Banquet Records. It features a demo of a new song called “A Fantastic Death.” That’s the first time we’ve heard that song title mentioned anywhere. The second track is what’s described as an “alternate version” of “The Angel Of 8th Ave.” The Banquet Records sale page says both songs are “taken from the sessions” for Gang of Youths’ new album, Angel In Realtime, which is also released on Feb. 25.
Both Rough Trade and Banquet are London-based independent record stores. Rough Trade also has a store in New York City and a US version of its online store, but the vinyl only appears on their UK site. It all leads us to believe this is a special release just for indie music stores, similar to the popular Record Store Day, which happens a couple times a year. (The next one is scheduled for April 23, 2022.) The “Indies Only” notation on the Rough Trade screenshot above is more evidence.
Maybe we’ll get an official announcement of some sort — an Instagram or Twitter post or something similar. If we find out anything else about this new demo, “A Fantastic Death,” we’ll certainly pass it along.
