Groovin’ The Moo festival canceled

The worldwide coronavirus pandemic has claimed six shows on Gang of Youths’ 2020 concert schedule.

Organizers of Australia’s Groovin’ the Moo festival have canceled this year’s event, which was due to play out across six cities between April 23 and May 9. The festival’s official statement (shown in the image above) offers this explanation:

The Government’s recommendations together with the uncertainty of these times makes it impossible for us to push forward with GTM this year.

As I type this, Australian health officials say the country has 375 confirmed cases of coronavirus and five deaths.

With countries around the globe putting increased emphasis on social distancing to stem the growing number of cases and deaths, it seems highly unlikely that Gang of Youths will take the stage in support of Sam Fender later this month in the UK. Fender’s brief tour is due to begin this Friday, and Gang of Youths’ first show in support is 10 days away — March 26 in London.

If you had tickets for this year’s Groovin’ the Moo, organizers said on Twitter that you can either hold your ticket for the 2021 festival or get a complete refund. More details on your options will be coming soon.

As always, you can see all upcoming Gang of Youths shows here on DS. (That page is missing two German festival gigs scheduled this June because exact dates haven’t been announced yet.)
