Happy 4th Birthday to The Positions!

Gang of Youths’ debut album, The Positions, turns four today. It was released on April 17, 2015.

Back in the day, GOY had an active Tumblr account where they posted various updates/photos/etc. Here’s the message that Dave posted on the day the album was released:

The album would soon debut at #5 on the ARIA album charts. Dave posted this message to fans following them on Tumblr:

this is the weirdest thing ever.

we are delighted but a little surprised and confused to be completely honest to announce that our guitar laden, hour-long concept album about terminal illness debuted at number 5 on the ARIA charts.

we could just kiss all of you right now but can’t. too shy.

thank you everybody. we fucking love you.

They also shared this screenshot of that week’s album charts.

The Positions earned GOY three (of their five total) nominations at the 2015 ARIA Awards: Breakthrough Artist – Release, Best Rock Album and Best Cover Artist. Track 8, “Radioface,” also earned a nomination for Engineer of the Year (for Adrian Breakspear and Peter Holz). The album has been re-issued a couple times, including on gold vinyl in 2017 and orange vinyl just last month. It was certified gold in 2018.
